Sciatica

Sciatica is a very common symptom present in people suffering with disc issues, post pregnancy, diabetes, as well as strained pelvic muscles.
Symptoms include pain, weakness, numbness, or tingling in the leg. It can causee a mild tingling, dull ache, or a burning sensation,

sometimes shooting past the knee into the foot. In some cases the pain is severe enough to make a person unable to move.
It occurs when there is pressure or irritation on the sciatic nerve exiting the lower lumbar spine and going down the legs. The sciatic nerve controls the muscles of the back of the leg and provides sensation to the back of the thigh, lower leg, and the sole of the foot.
If the symptoms go past the knee, then it is indicative of the root cause coming from within the spine. The sciatic nerve can be impinged from many different areas (ie piriformis muscle, disc protrusion, nerve root encroachment). Chiropractic adjustments to re-align the spine make a dramatic difference in lessening the pain associated with sciatica, as well as allowing the disc to best heal and repair. When this happens, irritation is no longer present on the sciatic nerve and the pain, burning, or tingling will go away.
To correct a sciatic nerve irritation, the spine and pelvis needs to be realigned so lasting relief and correction can take place, rather than short term relief as with muscle relaxers or pain medication. Chiropractic adjustments are the most effective method for this correction.
